With this technique, Raffir has managed to turn this fragile material into unique luxury products, such as fine and decorative crafts and unique products, that can all become a part of your home!
So I was not kidding – you can literally get a piece of the world’s natural history into your home, at this can happen in many shapes and forms, such as jewelries, crafts, decorations and much more!
Variation in the material
The tusk of mammoth comes in different natural colors, which differs due to the temperature, humidity and sediment composition where the fossil hunters has found the tusk after thousands of years.
You will find tusks in colors from bright white all the way to a dark brown, which gives you the possibility to choose your favorite color for your own use.
The following colors are available for purchasing right now:
- Bright White
- Clouded White
- Cream White
- Dark Brown
You will get a raw tusk block which will be around 120*40*22 milimeters in the dimension. This is because fossil hunters finds them in fragments, and therefore the blocks are not found bigger in nature. Most of the material comes in non-standard dimensions, since Raffir only fix the crosscut discs on thickness.
Raffir’s interesting history
Raffir started out with making knives, but ever since then, the dream was to create and stabilize unique handle materials. They started out with stabilizing wood, but after their first mammoth expedition, they got the idea of providing stabilized mammoth tusks.
The tusks are being vacuumed and treated with a high-pressure treatment to stabilize the products. You can see the interesting video about this process on the website Mammoth ivory.
